This symphony of thundercloud-colored foliage in the Concert Grove was a perfect grace note for a Brooklyn Blogade picnic bookended by ominous thunderstorms.
We had the Music Pagoda near at hand, and cowered there briefly during some lightning. I hate lightning. I mustered my courage, however, to give a little guided ramble through Battle Pass; the distant thunder was a good atmospheric stand-in for the sound of cannon and musket fire.
We had ample time before the next round of storms to engage in Pagan Blogging Rites around a sacrificial table laden with goodies. The mac and cheese was just as good as it looks; there was also a sublime salad of shrimp, avocado, and cucumber.
And there were cupcakes...and a Blogpug present (Paisley, I believe) in case any excess frosting needed to be licked.
Other delicious dogs were the edible ones provided by "Willie's Dawgs," an establishment on the Slope's Fifth Avenue that we'll have to patronize soon. Huge thanks to Dave Kenny of Dope on the Slope for doing the heavy lifting (literally and figuratively) to bring together a convivial gathering; newcomers, we were thrilled you could make it; and thanks to all my blogpals for coming out to what I now think of, insufferably, as "my" park for some midsummer fun.
I've got lots of photos of the tour to share!

Hi Ms Becker. I read about you in the Times and finally checked out your blog. Very lovely photos and warm notes on the life here in P.P.. Thanks is what I'd like to say, for loving my back yard too. I live across the street and was raised here but don't get too much grown-up time to enjoy it as much as I'd like. You encourage me though so I will make more effort in the future, along with my girl (age14). We tend to winter there more than warm weather par(k)takeing of its bounty.
