The Pilgrims didn't get their produce from California, and you don't need to, either! Tomorrow, Wednesday, the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket will be in nearly-full swing for our last-minute Thanksgiving needs. This spared me the torture last Saturday (at left) of wondering what would make it til Thursday in peak condition, and figuring out how to jam it into the fridge all week.
BELATED GREENMARKET DOG OF THE WEEK
THIS WEEKEND IN PROSPECT PARK, PRE- AND POST-TURKEY EDITION
The big day starts with a 5k "Turkey Trot" for joggers and runners; supposedly, mere walkers are also welcome. I was thinking of doing it until I heard the forecast for a high of 46; maybe I should just arise late and perform Stuffing Quality Control instead.
And how's this for locavore? On Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4, the Lefferts Homestead will present "Winter on a Flatbush Farm." Kids can learn how to dip candles, turn cabbage into sauerkraut, and other rustically non-digital activities...and on Sunday at 3, St. Nicholas shows up to kick it Dutch old-school and hand out treats. The Audubon Center nearby will also be open both afternoons for nature-themed fun with the kiddies. Now get out there, be grateful, and work off the gravy and pie.
